WHAT IS A SAND BLENDING CEREMONY?

Sand blending is one of the unity rituals. Each person takes sand in their own container, and pours it into a shared vessel. The blending represents the joining of two (or more) individuals into a joined family. The sentiment behind the ritual is that once the sand has been blended together into one vessel, it can never be separated.  

This is a great ritual to use when there are multiple family members, children or blended families, because as many people as you want can contribute to your sand blending.

Some people use sand they have collected from a favourite beach, while some use different coloured sands. You can make promises to one another as you pour in your sand. 

Why not collect sand from one of your fave beaches? Here is me, with a stone not sand, at Llandulas in North Wales!

It can be lovely to have an important person read out a poem or play some music, or have your celebrant speak some meaningful words, while you take part in this ritual. 

Sand blending  gives you a keepsake of the day that you can take home and display lovingly on your book case or install in your garden.

It’s a popular ritual, and for good reason. The combination of meaningful words and the action of pouring the sand together makes for a powerful moment in your ceremony.
